Carlos Bausa Martinez CV (2026)
Carlos joined Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) in 2019 as Sustainability Team Lead, following nearly five years at Foster + Partners in the Specialist Modelling Group as an Environmental Design Analyst. Specialising in computational design, environmental simulation, and sustainable architecture, he founded ZHA’s in-house Sustainability Team to inform design decisions from the earliest project stages across all design clusters. After four years, he was appointed Senior Associate and Head of Sustainability, coordinating sustainability assessments with external consultants to reduce environmental impact and achieve compliance with global building codes and certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, and the Chinese Three Star system. His work has been exhibited in China and London. Carlos holds degrees from the University of Alicante and the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC), multiple sustainability accreditations, and actively mentors students at leading institutions, including the Bartlett School of Architecture, the University of Westminster, the University of Liverpool, the University of Monterrey (UDEM), and IAAC in Barcelona.

Specialising in environmental analysis and computational 3D design, I worked on setting up the ZHA’s sustainability team. It operates to inform design decisions throughout the Concept Design and Schematic Design stages of each project; developing in-house resources and coordinating externally with consultants to ensure all projects are delivered with the same degree of sustainability standards.
My contribution has helped shape and define the studio's sustainability strategies, by also providing design teams with environmental simulation tools linking geometry modelling with environmental analysis feedback, to optimize architectural elements based on climate data and certifications goals, thus achieving more energy efficient solutions leading to buildings with lower carbon footprints.
I contributed to the façade shading design strategy of OPPO Headquarters in Shenzhen, China, currently under construction. This 200m-tall office building will be an architectural embodiment of OPPO’s brand and philosophy, and a powerful asset for the city of Shenzhen. He was also been working on CECEP Headquarters in Shanghai, China, which is currently also under construction. Located in Binjiang historical industrial exhibition area, close to the Huangpu River, the new tower will provide Grade A office facilities with 5G intelligent system standards, and will boast one of the most energy-efficient, low-carbon science and technology models in Shanghai. My portfolio of succesfull collaborations with the ZHA architectural teams includes:
OPPO Headquarters, Shenzhen, China
CECEP Shanghai Campus, Shanghai, China
Infinitus HQ, Guangzhou, China
Yidan Centre, Shenzhen, China
Zuglo mixed-use development, Budapest, Hungary
Shenzhen Tower C, Shenzhen, China

Environmental Design Analyst, Associate
Specialist Modelling Group
(London, UK)
2015- 2019
I worked as an architectural designer within the Specialist Modelling Group at Foster + Partners. Leveraging my expertise in computational 3D modelling, rendering, and lighting design, I contributed to the development of architectural design proposals for major international clients, including Apple. On a daily basis, I applied solar and artificial lighting analysis tools, using performance data to refine design options and optimise the energy consumption of proposed schemes. In parallel, I acted as a daylight specialist, employing advanced physical rendering and custom analysis tools to quantify and visualise the often invisible qualities of light. These studies directly informed my architectural work, supporting the design of interior environments and façade systems grounded in rigorous environmental performance analysis.
Summary of projects I worked on:
Apple store Fifth Avenue New York, USA
Apple store Marina Bay, Singapore
Apple store Macau, China
Apple Europe Headquarters, United Kingdom
Apple store regent street, United Kingdom
Apple store Dubai Mall
Apple store Champ Elysees

Internship (4 months)
(London, UK)
2014
During my time in this office in London, I contributed to façade rationalisation through parametric scripting tools, supporting the development of façade cladding systems and glazing structures, primarily for projects by Zaha Hadid Architects. I was involved in the production of detailed 3D sections and technical drawings, and participated in the development of GRC panelisation drawings to support digital fabrication workflows.

Internship (6 months)
(Barcelona, Spain)
2013-2014
I spent six months working at this interior design studio, where I undertook a range of responsibilities related to the parametric design of complex geometries, panelisation, and the preparation of files for CNC fabrication. My role covered the full project lifecycle, from concept design through to technical development and fabrication. I produced detailed workshop drawings and construction details, supporting the delivery of exhibition spaces and office interior renovation projects, while gaining hands-on experience in digital fabrication processes and coordination with manufacturers.

Academic work
UNIVERISTY OF MONTERREY
(UDEM)
Global Community Professor
2024-2025
For three months, I worked part-time at the University of Monterrey (UDEM), teaching students how to design buildings using computational design tools and environmental analysis methods. The course focused on optimisation strategies for building envelopes, integrating feedback loops to develop more sustainable design solutions. Students applied the workflows I taught to a project developed throughout the academic year. Teaching was delivered in a blended format, combining in-person sessions held over several weeks during the 2024–25 academic year, allowing hands-on experience with practical and computational design methods.

Bartlett School of Architecture
External tutor and Master collaborator for the Bio-Integrated design master program.
2024
I collaborated with the BIO Bio-Integrated Design, driven by Professor Marcos Cruz and the tutor Nina Jotanovic. I supervised the evolution of the student’s projects for several months and teach them in different areas related to environmental analysis, building physics simulation, bioclimatic building design and sustainability principles.
